I want to promote the use of folding bikes as a means of transportation here in the Philippines. This blog is meant to share my experiences as a folding bike user. I chose a Brompton for its classic style and compact fold, but other brands like Dahon, Strida, Bike Friday, Flamingo and Peerless produce good foldies as well.
I know this comment is not apt for your post. But anyway I need your help on choosing/buying a foldable bike. I do not have money to purchase a Brompton or even a Peerless. But I'd like to ask, since I am a newbie for foldable bikes, do you recommend China-made foldable bikes, the ones you can buy at Cartimar? What should be the "standard specs" for a foldable bike and how do I know if it will not fail me during 30km-long road biking?
Hi, Edna! 30km is a pretty long trip. Although the China-made foldable bikes in Cartimar will hold up for that far a trip, I'm not sure if it'll last long. I think it will be safer to get a Japanese surplus folding bike for around 3k. For brand new, I still suggest you get at least a Peerless. They can go as low as 6k. I hope that helped. Good luck and see you on the road!
Thank you for your prompt reply Kris, grateful for it! :)
Actually my boyfriend and I plan to join the Tour of the Fireflies this November and I plan to get him a folding bike as a gift. Cartimar is the option I am currently looking at but I will visit that Japanese Surplus Shop you're suggesting. I am from BF Homes Pque, do you know any nearby Jap Surp Shop? Or where do you suggest I go?
I will look at that Peerless bike you're saying. Will try to find a distributor or the one you posted in your blog way back 2011.
Why don't you also try searching on the Folding Bike Market group page on Facebook. Here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/foldingbikemarketph/
Hi Kris,
ReplyDeletesorry if this comment sounds like an advertisement - I found no other option to get in contact.
I just wanted to tell you about my renewed Brompton blog at:

The blog is still work in progress but …
If possible I would be proud to make it into your blogroll with my blog.
Cheers,
